The 1st Tar Creek Open Recap - Oct 6th, 2025
Recap of The 1st Tar Creek Open
We had moderate temperatures Saturday for The first Tar Creek event. The first round was near perfect temperature for most. The afternoon heated up some, but the winds picked up and kept it comfortable.
According to locals/regulars that frequent the Veterans Disc Golf park in Miami, the course was in its best shape ever. A big thanks to the city for mowing places where they normally don’t, and making things better than normal for the tournament. A large part of this is due to Paul Marquez for doing the leg work and keeping communication with the city.
Speaking of Paul, he is ultimately the one to thank for this tournament. His vision started unfolding last year when LEAD Agency director, Rebecca Jim, asked if we could host a disc golf tournament in conjunction with their environmental conference. His excitement, enthusiasm, and willing to do what it took to make it happen was evident in every way. From course prep, to funding, free Indian Taco lunch, to players packs, he sweetened every part of this tournament. I speak for all when I say we can’t thank you enough Paul.
Paul sent a list of all the local sponsors that help make this event happen. Thank you to all involved: Basketcase Disc Golf, City of Miami, Eastern Shawnee Tribe Wellness Center, George and Frances Webb, LEAD Agency, Miami Ace-66 Hardware, Miami Laundromat Co., Neece Concrete Construction, Quapaw Farmer’s Market, Stoner Farms, and all the volunteers that have been working on this tournament.
We also want to mention our Full Send Tour 2025 sponsors as well: Elephant & Castle Fine Arms, Patriots Gold & Silver, Dynamic Discs, Innova Champion Discs, Fossa Disc Golf, Prodigy Discs, Creator Designs, MVP/Axiom Discs, Millennium Golf Discs, Discmania, Educational Disc Golf Experience, Grip EQ, Slim Chickens, 8Up, Greazy Dyes, Discs Unlimited, Swing Right Golf, Intuitive Body Works & Massage, and Sticky Dyes. Thank you for the continued support.
